Oczekiwania wobec reformy liturgicznej Soboru Watykańskiego II w pismach Josepha Ratzingera
Waleńdzik, Piotr (Wydawnictwo Archidiecezji Warszawskiej, 2013)
In year 201350 years will pass since the first document of the Second Vatican Council was enacted – the Constitution about Saint Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium. Such a significant anniversary induces to pose questions about intentions of taking up at that time the renewal of Liturgy and its modem results. In those deliberations there is a special place for people, who participated in conciliar debates. Pope-pensioner Benedict XVI belongs to this group, who as a consultant of Cardinal Frings, was nominated for a Council theologian. Careful reading of Joseph Ratzinger’s statements show how great hope he associated with Conciliar liturgical renewal. Impatience and haste while trying to put into practice the constitution’s Sacrosanctum Concilium provisions, caused that not all ideas were understood deeply enough, especially in the first period of their realisation. Although they became the subject of criticism of Joseph Ratzinger – they cannot overshadow the great good that renewed liturgy brought to spiritual life of community.

Świętość ontyczna i struktura ontologiczna człowieka. Antropologiczne podstawy duchowości chrześcijańskiej
Tatar, Marek (Wydawnictwo Archidiecezji Warszawskiej, 2013)
The question about man, his origin, structure, place, and role in the world, relation to others and his ultimate goal, belongs to fundamental categories. Theological research, referring to natural as well as supernatural revelation, has its proper place and meaning. Human life, both in commonly shared human experience and in academic and scientific research in the fields of philosophy, science, history, archaeology, palaeontology, religiology or ethnology of religion. The analysis of the text on supernatural Revelation identifies the call of man into being as a special moment, crowning the whole work of God’s creation. In the Old Testament we have two texts about the proctology of man: Yahwistic (Gen 2: 4b – 24) and Elohistic (Gen 1: 26 – 28). The fragment from Genesis 1: 26; 5, 1, referring to the creation of man by God “in our image, and our likeness”, is pertinent to the undertaken subject, as it discloses God’s intention. Next, we deal with an account of the accomplished act of the call of humankind “ in his [own] image” and as “male and female” (Gen 1: 27). This short statement from the Elohist text refers to the forerunner of the genealogy of a humanity that exists in God. On the one hand, biblical texts clearly express a certain identity of man which can be termed by the contemporary notion of integrity, however, simultaneously, we can observe polarity between the material and the spiritual. Observation and experience also indicate his limitations. The Old Testament texts concerning creation are fully implemented in the mystery of Incarnation and Redemption. Therefore, it can be stated that in the human nature there must be integrity in this respect constituting the basis of his whole humanity. Externally, we notice materiality which causes limitations, and spirituality which is completely different, immaterial, non-carnal. According to A. Scola, this duality, which can be described as an experience of double unity, is very important both for the external experience of man and for his internal dimension – a spiritual life. It can be observed that man is able to surpass himself, in other words, specific self-transcendence takes place, influenced by his spiritual – mental life. We can also see an entirety o f his psychological life with its laws and relationships. The manifestation of this aspect of life can be noticed in the analysis of man’s relation to God, other people, himself and the surrounding world. The community of the Holy Trinity is at the same time the community of man. A human community strives for a sanctifying union with God on the basis of its creative equipment and divine grace.

L’attualità della teologia del Mercoledì delle Ceneri nel contenuto della celebrazione e dei testi
Szoplik, Bartosz (Wydawnictwo Archidiecezji Warszawskiej, 2013)

Fundamentalne problemy i zasady etyki farmaceutów
Warzeszak, Stanisław; Kietliński, Krzysztof (Wydawnictwo Archidiecezji Warszawskiej, 2013)
Some fundamental problems contained at the Codex of the Pharmacists of Poland issued in the year 2012 constitute an interesting way of understanding human activity in particular areas. Going back to some historical concepts and traditions, and especially to the notion of natural law, the Codex provides an important reference to professional reflection and bioethical evaluation. This issue is completed in this article by a significant approach coming from pontifical teaching addressed to pharmacists on different occasions. The emphasis is placed especially on the personalistic vision of human professional activities, particularly the right to the objection of conscience, which has recently become a very important issue in the practice of Catholic bioethical doctrine.

Magisterium Kościoła w demokracji medialnej kontrowersje wokół kwestii bioetycznych
Mostowska, Monika (Wydawnictwo Archidiecezji Warszawskiej, 2013)
At the beginning of the 21st century it becomes clear that there is an ever bigger problem with the communication between the Catholic Church and the contemporary society. The misunderstanding is noticeable especially in the area of bioethics. The press, radio and television stations belonging to the so-called “mainstream mass media” are abundant in information concerning the Church’s teaching in the field of in-vitro fertilisation, abortion or legalisation of homosexual “marriages” The problem is that the information has little in common with the Church’s teaching and universal values that respect human dignity from the natural conception to natural death. There are three causes of that conflict. The first one is a false anthropological vision. Because of the fastest ever technological progress and a biomedical revolution people started to glorify the scientific progress without any restrains and deny any kind of transcendence. Individualism and rational mind are the most important values for them. The second reason of the conflict is the mass media content, that only shows positive aspects of the in-vitro procedure, surrogate mothers, abortion, homosexual “marriages”, etc. In consequence, the public opinion barely knows about the drawbacks and damaging effects of those activities on health. The third reason is an improper argumentation of the members of the Church, which in majority consists of religious arguments, referring to the Bible or faith. Those arguments are not convincing in a contemporary lay society with a negative attitude towards the Church. This article presents some examples of the confusing media information, shows some gaps in the Church’s argumentation of universal values and indicates some ways to make the communication between the Church and the society more efficient. All people should have access to reasonable arguments for life and bioethical protection. And one of the tasks of Catholics is to bridge the gap between the Church and the modem society by effective explaining the Church’s teaching.

Jezus jako Syn Boży w opowiadaniu św. Mateusza o chodzeniu po morzu (Mt 14,22-33)
Kłósek, Kinga (Wydawnictwo Archidiecezji Warszawskiej, 2013)
This article discusses the problem of Jesus as a Son of God in the Bible story concerning Jesus’ walking on the sea (Matthew 14,22-33). The author has concentrated on defining the literary genre of the passage and naming the similarities between it and the Old Testamentary epiphanies. A literary analysis and exegesis suggest a proper way of understanding the pericope. The author tries to answer the question: what happened and what did Jesus do that the disciples believed in Him as the Son of God?

Awerroizm łaciński na Uniwersytecie Paryskim w XIII wieku
Kaczmarek, Piotr (Wydawnictwo Archidiecezji Warszawskiej, 2013)
The University of Paris of the 13th century became a centre of many intellectual movements. Aristotle’s works appeared in a facultas artium with commentaries made by Muslim Thinkers. This new peripatetic philosophy gave rise to great discussion concerning the works of Bonaventure, Albert the Great and Thomas Aquinas. They argued against the Averroists Siger de Brabant and Boethius of Dacia. It was not an easy task, because Aristotelianism was a very high-level and mature philosophy. The most criticised thesis was the concept o f human intellect, which, according to Averroists, is common for all mankind and yet separated from them. Another Averroist idea was the possibility o f knowing the truth in two independent ways: through theology and philosophy which can even be in opposition to each another. This article presents a good background to the phenomenon of Averroism in the Golden Age of scholastic philosophy.

Obraz człowieka miłującego i sprawiedliwego w nauczaniu kard. Stefana Wyszyńskiego
Jastrzębski, Jerzy (Wydawnictwo Archidiecezji Warszawskiej, 2013)
Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński made an effort to form a new generation of Poles. He believed that people should be loving and righteous. The basis of this concept is the truth about the dignity of man as a person – the essence of a free and rational person, yet a child of God. However, a person is “an individual” who lives in such communities as a state, a nation or a family, yet exceeds them because he is eternal. That is why Cardinal Wyszyński reminded that people are the most important in the world, right after God. This view was rejected by Marxists, who the Polish Primate unwillingly engaged in polemics with. He explained that the idea that equals men and objects is wrong and should be rejected even if it means slowing down economic progress. The Primate explained that the Church carries on the work of education of new people – loving and righteous, those who on the one hand are open to grace, and on the other make an effort to organise the relationship with God, others and themselves. In practice it means the synchronisation of the needs of the body, the soul, the mind, the will and the heart. The manifestation of this harmony will be specific characteristics of people loving and fair, which mean love to God and man, preaching and living in truth, the practice of justice, the ability to sacrifice for and respect other people. Without such people any reform of social life will be doomed to failure.

Początki prawa regulującego nadzwyczajną formę zawarcia małżeństwa
Jakubiak, Tomasz (Wydawnictwo Archidiecezji Warszawskiej, 2013)
Until the Council of Trent for the validity of Marriage no form of its celebration had been required. Although it was not recognised formally in any legal text, the extraordinary form was born with the 1602 Decree. The extraordinary form was comprehensively regulated in the decree “Ne Temere”. The legislator in each following code of the canon law published the norm similar to “Ne Temere” decree p. 7-8, which was less restrictive than the previous one. The extraordinary form of the celebration of marriage is a result of a historical evolution related to concrete pastoral needs, coupled with a technical development that has not always been consistent with these pastoral concerns.

Problem zgody domniemanej w polskiej transplantologii
Gardocka, Marzena (Wydawnictwo Archidiecezji Warszawskiej, 2013)
The question of human dignity is a particular area of medicine. Contemporary philosophical trends in philosophy, among them utilitarism, represent a real threat for human life and its dignity. The idea of the quality of human life remains in conflict of its sanctity, but this does not help to protect human life. The author of this paper gives arguments for the dignity of human life which go towards its theological foundation. On the base of the idea of human dignity is considered the question of palliative care of a terminally ill patient. The main problem of that Care is to distinguish between the quality of life and its sanctity.

Ciało jako scena dramatu w filozofii Józefa Tischnera
Czekalski, Rafał (Wydawnictwo Archidiecezji Warszawskiej, 2013)
This article presents the human body as an essential part of J. Tischner’s philosophy of drama. The body takes part in personal drama – man grows inside the body, time flows through it and eventually man becomes capable of sacrifice. It is in the capacity to sacrifice the body that Tischner sees the sense of human corporeality. Of course, it does not mean that the human body is bad in itself and needs to be burned, but it does need to grow to reach the capacity of self-sacrifice. Tischner's vision of the body is positive, it is not flawed by Manicheism, of which Christian theology has often been accused. The human body is an important element of hope. Abraham, who set off to the promised land despite his old age, is the archetype of this vision.
