Its author is a Swiss priest and scholar, employee of the Vatican diplomatic service and since 1969 titular archbischop. For years he continued to enlarge his book, and he has published its more popular English and Dutch versions. The book now is the most im portant source of information on the genesis of coats of arms in Church custom and on the heraldry law of the Christian Churches.
