These four were, besides the literal sense, allegorical, moral and anagogical ones, which together were considered to form the spiritual sense of the Scriptures. The wisdom of the ancient Church may be thus rediscovered. To gain such insight into the biblical vision of the Church fathers some examples were chosen in this paper: The Letter of Barnabas and Stromata of the Clement of Alexandria.
