Dla Mühlena jest to „doświadczenie Ducha” powiązane z sakramentem chrztu i bierzmowania. Dlatego niemiecki teolog kładzie mocny nacisk na doświadczenie chrztu Jezusa w Jordanie oraz na doświadczenie Pięćdziesiątnicy dla Kościoła. Jego zdaniem każdy wierzący może i powinien czerpać moc do duchowego życia z obu tych wydarzeń. Mühlen wprowadza nowe pojęcie: „odnowa Ducha”, rozumiane jako „doświadczenie Ducha”, w miejsce terminu „chrzest Duchem Świętym”. „Odnowa Ducha” jest procesem trwałym, a nie jednorazowym, a jego pentekostalność jest źródłem rozwoju Kościoła.The article presents the interpretation of the Pentecostal term “baptism with the Holy Spirit” by Heribert Mühlen, one of the leading pneumatologists of the 20th century, and theologians of the Catholic charismatic renewal movement. Mühlen highlights the connection between the sacraments of baptism and confirmation and the “experience of the Spirit.” Therefore, the German theologian strong emphasis on the experience of Jesus’ baptism in Jordan, and on the experience of Pentecost for the Church. In his opinion, every believer can and should draw power for spiritual life from both of these events.
