It begins with a brief presentation of the genesis of lay vocation and the current state of research on this topic. The article addresses also the questions of specific character of the laity and vocation of the theologian. Furthermore, the author discusses the identity and tasks of the lay theologian and the differences between lay and clerical theologians.
