We can compare this phrase of Mark with the following Old Testament texts: Ex 33,19.22; 34,5f and 1 Kings 19,11: Moses and Elijah saw the „Glory of God” (kebôd Jhwh). In this comparison Jesus walking on the water appears as „the Glory of God” – a transcendent Person although hidden „in the condition of a slave” (Phil 2,7). In this moment his disciples are not yet ready to understand the mystery of the Glory of Jesus godness.
