Formuła nie została włączona do soborowej konstytucji Dei verbum; Sobór przesunął akcent z Apostołów na Chrystusa i z „zamknięcia” („zakończenia”) na „wypełnienie”. Posoborowe nauczanie Kościoła także nie zawiera omawianej formuły, lecz stwierdza sam fakt wypełnienia objawienia w Chrystusie. Jest to owoc pogłębionej refleksji teologicznej nad rzeczywistością Objawienia Bożego, na przykład przez odróżnianie autentyczności ksiąg świętych od ich kanoniczności, Objawienia od natchnienia biblijnego, dostrzeganie biblijnego bogactwa słowa „apostoł”, wreszcie odejście od czysto intelektualistycznej koncepcji Objawienia. Choć współczesna teologia ciągle pogłębia i propaguje takie ujęcie Objawienia, w poszczególnych wypadkach zdarza się używanie starej formuły, że „Objawienie zakończyło się wraz śmiercią ostatniego Apostoła”. Niniejsze opracowanie postuluje zaniechanie jej stosowania oraz precyzyjne tłumaczenie i prezentację nauczania Kościoła o „wypełnieniu Objawienia w Chrystusie”.The article talks over the classical meaning of the formula “the Revelation ended with the death of the last Apostle” and presents her pre-council critique. Even though the present theology all the time deepens and propagates such apprehension of the Revelation, in particular cases take place the exercise of the old formula that “the Revelation ended with the death of the last Apostle”.
