He claims that it comes from the Old Testament. Looking for its roots he separates it in to 2 parts: „I am” and „the true vine”. The first part „I am”, it is a kind of God’s revelation formula which could be found in the different the Old Testament books. The second part „the true vine” it is probably a compilation of the following texts: Iz 5,1-7; Jr 2,21; Ez 17,5-10; 19,10-14.
