The aim of this organization, which has been working under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Poland, is the renovation of the monuments of Cracow and the Salt Mines in Wieliczka. Until 1990 the Chairman of this organization was Prof. Henryk Jabłoński. The changes in the political system in Poland brought about structural changes in the Committee in 1990. A well-known writer Stanisław Lem was appointed Chairman for a year. The Committee successfully conducted renovation and prevented deterioration of many achitectural monuments, churches, castles, palaces, mansions, tenement houses, parks, gardens, water and transportation installations in and in the vicinity of Cracow.
