It is analysed by psychologists from various points of view. It is said that there are different types, functions and conditions of bereavement. The present study is a theoretical introduction to future empirical research conducted by the Department of Psychology of Religion of The Pontifical Academy of Theology. The author presents contemporary results of emotions and thinking process in the experience of bereavement. Describes correlates and the process of normal and pathological bereavement. Shows typical ways of helping mourning people and the role of hospices in coping with loss.
