This uniqueness, emphasized in Gen 1,3-5, in our view, forms the background of the entire Priestly Creation Narrative. In the theology of the priestly redactor, light clearly stands out from God’s creatures. Its significance goes far beyond physical obvi ousness. The creation of light not only sets in motion the cosmic clock, but also creates the space-time in which the subsequent acts of creation take place. The creation of light makes the order of creation feasible and de termines it.
