Ratzinger/Benedykt XVI traktuje słowa Prologu Ewangelii św. Jana: „Na początku było Słowo (Logos)” jako fundamentalną zasadę całej rzeczywistości, która to zasada decyduje o istotowej, ontycznej rozumności/sensowności wszechświata, gdyż wskazuje na jego początek – Stwórcę. Sens nie jest skutkiem istnienia czy działania, ale jego zasadą – już ze względu na stworzenie, zaś chrystologia uświadamia, że jest w istocie tożsamy z miłością i – konsekwentnie, dlatego – dosiężny w historii i poznawalny dla człowieka (wcielony). Utrzymanie tej „Logosowej” logiki chroni chrześcijańską wiarę przed mitycznością, przemocą, autosoteryzmem i moralizmem. Jedynie pokorne przyjęcie daru i kenotyczne, modlitewne zjednoczenie z Chrystusem – odwiecznym Logosem pozwala człowiekowi rozpoznać właściwy sens świata – cichą oczywistość Boga.J. Meaning is not a result but the principle of existence or action – by virtue of creation itself, and Christology makes us aware that meaning is, in essence, identical with love and, consequently, accessible in history and cognizable to man (incarnated). Maintaining this “logic of the Logos” protects Christian faith from mythicality, violence, autosoterism, and moralism.
