W badaniach wykorzystano analizę zawartości, analizę porównawczą oraz analizę struktury dzieła filmowego oraz nurt semantyczny, wskazujący na znaczenie symbolu w filmie. Ricoeur czy Eliade uważali, że symbol (działanie symbolu) jest świadectwem relacji człowieka z sacrum. Symbol nadaje więc filmowi w pewnym sensie charakter religijny. Interpretacja filmu jest więc próbą rozszyfrowania symbolu, który jest jednocześnie obecny w dwóch rzeczywistościach – konkretnej (geograficzno-historycznej) i niekonkretnej – wszędzie i nigdzie. Analiza wykazała, że film „Powołany” nie tylko zawiera większy wachlarz symboli i sakramentów, ale także pozwala na ich głębsze odczytanie, uwalniając więcej znaczeń niż nominowany do Oscara film Jana Komasy „Boże Ciało”.The research aims to determine what religious symbols are used to build the world depicted in a contemporary film dealing with a vocation in the Roman Catholic faith. We used content analysis, comparative analysis, and analysis of the structure of the film work in our research. We also used the semantic current, indicating the importance of the symbol in the film. Ricoeur or Eliade believed that a symbol (the operation of a symbol) is evidence of man’s relationship with the sacred. Therefore, the symbol gives the film a religious character in some sense. Thus, the interpretation of the film is an attempt to decipher the symbol, which is simultaneously present in two realities – concrete (geographic-historical) and non-concrete – everywhere and nowhere.
