He significantly influenced the religious and ecclesiastic life of his time being not only a precursor of the Church reform but an outstanding statesman as well. Cardinal Hlond served his Country difficult times: in the reconstruction of the independent republic after the I World War and in the first days of communist tyranny. However, he appears to be an extremely controversial personage.
