Pierwszy numer pisma ukazał się w 1968 roku. Jego początki należy wiązać z uaktywnieniem się lokalnego  środowiska teologów i historyków po Soborze Watykańskim II oraz w kontekście powstającego w Katowicach Uniwersytetu Śląskiego. Artykuł ukazuje także rolę pisma w scalaniu środowiska katowickich teologów i w zarysie przedstawia historię pisma na przestrzeni pięćdziesięciu lat jego istnienia.The aim of the article is to remind the circumstances of the foundation of an academic journal “Silesian Historical and Theological Studies”, which is a periodical presenting the achievements of the Catholic academics from the Upper Silesia. The first issue of the journal was published in 1968. Its beginnings are associated with the activation of the local milieu of theologians and historians after the Second Vatican Council and with the context of the Silesian University established in Katowice.
