The self-consiciousness is described in terms of a process of oscilation between the two dialectically interdependent polars of cognitions; between the perceptual experience of himself as a subject and object. Ability to sustain a dynamic equilibrium in the process of oscilation between these two poles renders possible optimal functioning of personality. Therefore, there is a dearth of appropriate methodes to measure these aspects of personal functioning. I introduce a research on feasability of using the Semantic Differential technique devised by Ch. Osgood as tentative method for the differentiation of subject-object dichotomy. This technique is applied to assess the evaluative dimension of connotative meanings of the concepts which describe the subjective-objective perceptual experiences of the self. They are ais follow: being an individual - being a part of community, authenticity - concem for good impression, self-actualizing - imitating, stability-lability, dignity of the person-utility of the person, automomy-heteronomy, spontaneity - control of oneself, creative behavior-adaptative behavior, self-realization - efficacity, experience of freedom - experience of dependency. The applied technique based on subject's ratings of the meanings of the chosen concepts along the several seven pointed scales makes possible to measure the linear distance between the points in the semantic space representing concepts describing the dimension of the subject dichotomy. The empirical research presented in this article suggests an significant discriminative value of the proposed method (Subject-Object Scale).plAttribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Polandhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/pl/osobowośćpsychologiaczłowiekcharakterpodmiotowy charakter człowiekaprzedmiotowy charakter człowiekahumanizmpsychologia humanistycznaspołeczeństwosocjologiapersonalitypsychologyhumanhumanismhumanistic psychologysocietysociologyPróba metrycznego ujęcia podmiotowych i przedmiotowych wymiarów osobowościA tentative research on the method to measure subject-object areas of personalityArticle
