Among them a special group – because of family and social effects – is constituted by schizophrenic patients. The aim of the present article is to show the changes that occur in functioning of a family after a child in it falls ill with schizophrenia. Part I presents the attitudes and emotions that accompany the struggle with the illness, and Part II – the changes in the selected functions of the family. The author first of all focuses her considerations on the following functions: material-economic, procreative, sexual, recreation-social, emotional-expressive, tutelary, controlling, consumption and religious ones. Some of them are discussed more extensively, others are only pointed to.
