Jakkolwiek historia tej postaci jest w polskiej literaturze historiograficznej i hagiograficznej często porównywana do Stanisława ze Szczepanowa, to zarówno formy oddawania czci jak i zasięg kultu angielskiego męczennika był o wiele szerszy niż cześć oddawana biskupowi krakowskiemu. Zadaniem, jakie postawił sobie autor artykułu, jest przybliżenie niektórych aspektów kultu Tomasza Becketa na ziemiach średniowiecznej Anglii, wyrażanego w piśmiennictwie, jubilerstwie, sztuce oraz architekturze. W tym celu autor posłużył się dostępnymi najnowszymi ustaleniami badaczy tego tematu, reprezentującymi dziedziny takie jak: historia, archeologia oraz historia sztuki.On December 29, 2020, 850 years have passed since the martyrdom of Saint Thomas Becket. However, the story of this character in Polish hagiographic and historiographic literature, is very often compared to Stanisław of Szczepanów, the forms of worship and the extent of the cult of the English martyr were much wider than the worship given to the Bishop of Kraków. The task of the author of the article is to present some aspects of the cult of Thomas Becket in the lands of medieval England, expressed in literature, jewelry, art and architecture.
