The author has described the mindset that is the legacy of socialism in practice and given examples of the unethical practices that were characteristic of the initial period of change. Attention has also been drawn to the positive aspects of this period of transformation manifested in society’s growing need for more ethical relations between market entities. In the light of this background, space has also been devoted to looking at the opportunities and prospects for the development of business ethics as a practical, interdisciplinary area for study. Its role should be to initiate and carry out research into social reality, highlight areas of this reality that should be researched by other social sciences, and on the basis of this research, to attempt to create a flexible model for resolving conflicts between business and ethics. The author has also touched on the issue of the changes that the Catholic Church should make in its attitude to the business world in order to take an active part in the process of the transformations that are taking place, and to be in a position to continue to fulfil its evangelic mission.plAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Polandhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/pl/etykabiznesetyka biznesufilozofiaekonomiagospodarkaspołeczeństwoPolska Rzeczpospolita LudowaPRLkomunizmsocjalizmgospodarka socjalistycznanormy moralnemoralnośćprzemiany społeczneprzemiany gospodarczekapitalizmwyzyskKościółKościół katolickirola Kościołaethicsbusinessbusiness ethicsphilosophyeconomicseconomysocietyPolish People's Republiccommunismsocialismsocialist economymoral normsmoralitysocial changeseconomic changescapitalismexploitationChurchCatholic Churchrole of the ChurchZadania dla twórców etyki biznesuThe Challenges of Business EthicsArticle
