The periodical was founded by Bolesław Piasecki in 1956 when its earlier counterpart „Dziś i Jutro” was condemned by the Holy Office and placed on the Index. „Kierunki” expresses social and political views of the PAX movement of the so-called progressive Catholics. The activity of the group has no support of Polish hierarchy, and the contient of articles in „Kierunki” is not considered to be representative of the Church.
