Każda z rodzin w relacjach z otaczającym ją społeczeństwem, jako większą zbiorowością, oczekuje uznania i akceptowania jej tożsamości ze wszystkimi przyjętymi w niej zwyczajami i regułami postępowania. Aby było to możliwe, musi spełniać przypisywane jej przez społeczeństwo funkcje zgodne z jego interesem. Gdy nie pełni tych funkcji, wówczas staje się dysfunkcjonalna. Realizacja tych funkcji zależy w głównej mierze od postaw małżeńskich i rodzicielskich dorosłych członków rodziny, którzy przez swój związek stworzyli jej zręby. Postawy te różnią się w zależności od stadium rozwoju rodziny, to jest wczesnego, środkowego i końcowego. Najlepsze perspektywy anihilacji dysfunkcjonalności stwarza stadium wczesne, gdy małżonkowie wiążą swoje nadzieje i perspektywy z rozwojem rodziny. Pozostałe stadia jej rozwoju wymagają rozbudzenia nadziei i świadomości tych perspektyw.The family is community of persons connected with oneself with the marriage and parental relationship, and at the same time the social fundamental unit. Every of families in relations with the society surrounding her, as the larger community expects regarding and accepting the identity for her with everyone with customs adopted in it and the code of conduct. So that it is possible must fulfil the functions assigned by the society to her in accordance with his business.
