Po zakończeniu w 1945 roku nazistowskiego reżimu niemieccy protestanci musieli pogodzić się z faktem, że narodowi socjaliści wykorzystali Lutra jako kluczowego świadka wspierającego swoją politykę prześladowań i eksterminacji. Przez kilka dziesięcioleci kwestia ta nie została skonfrontowana w sposób jednoznaczny. Dopiero w listopadzie 2015 r. Synod Kościoła Ewangelickiego w Niemczech (EKD) jednoznacznie zdystansował się od antysemickich diatrybów Lutra.Since the inauguration of the so-called «Luther Decade» in 2008, one topic has been discussed more than any other: Martin Luther’s antisemitism, in particular his tract on «The Jews and their Lies», written in 1543.
