Wkład ks. prof. Władysława Piwowarskiego w rozwój katolickiej nauki społecznej

Abstract

The author of the article analyses Rev. Prof. Piwowarski’s academic output in the sphere of Catholic social teaching, taking into consideration its form and contents. In the formal layer he considers as original the Professor’s considerations on the origin, idea and methods of Catholic social teaching. As far as the contents are concerned he points to an interesting – against the background of other authors – attitude towards ethic-social rules: those of subsidiariness, solidarity and common good. Among other subjects taken up by Professor Piwowarski the following ones deserve attention: philosophical-ethical foundations of social life, human rights, conceptions of the state, of democracy and of the political system in the light of Catholic social teaching, contemporary social ideologies, pluralism in the society, the Church’s teaching on labour, the system of ownership. The article not only shows the basic issues dealt with by Professor Piwowarski in his discussion of Catholic social teaching, but also mentions spheres and ways in which to practically apply that branch of knowledge. The most important one of them is intensifying faith in its social dimension through the proper Catholic-social formation of the clergy and lay people.
