Abstrakt
The calling on the Holy Spirit during the celebration of the Eucharist is strictly connected with the prayer of epiclesis. Catholic theology, especially after Vatican Council II and the influence of a dialogue with orthodox theologians, discovered anew and appreciated this type of prayer. In contemporary Catholic theology epiclesis is, above all, identified with the eucharistie transubstantiation of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ (consecration epiclesis), and then with the fruit of the Holy Communion (communion epiclesis). Epiclesis also takes place outside consecration and the Holy Communion. This kind of calling on the Spirit takes place during the initial rites, and then before the proclamation of the Gospel (so-called scriptural epiclesis).
