Abstract

During the postwar period the rapid spatial development and significant increase in the population of Rzeszów took place. These changes madę the church authorities condense the network of parishes and churches in the city. In 1946 there was only one parish in this city, now there are thirty ones. Organising the network of the parishes as well as the independent movement of religious architecture facilitated not only the process of creating new forms of social interaction but also enhanced the activity of the Catholics lay people. Additionally, it contributed to strengthening local community bonds. Triggered off creating new parishes and religious architecture the religioussocial phenomenon results in significant religious activity ofthe Catholic lay people. Approximately eighteen per cent of the Catholic lay people are involved in the activity of various associations and organisations operating in the parishes of Rzeszów. Meeting their religious needs, the good parish infrastructure has the significant influence on the activity of the faithful.
