Architektura gotyckiego kościoła dominikanów w Lublinie w świetle dostępnych źródeł

Abstract

In the present look of the Dominicans’ basilica located in ul. Złota in Lublin, the dominating elements are beautiful, Baroque chapels, an incredibly characteristic Renaissance gable distinguishing this building from among other constructions as well as a glistening and gold-reflecting classical altar. Many of us ask the question concerning the original look of this gothic temple after the tragic fire of May 1575. We know that after this event, the church construction was radically modified and those modifications were caused by the destructions brought about by the fire. The present text is just an attempt at reconstructing the architecture of the basilica in the light of the available archeological written or iconographie sources as well as at placing it in the circle of the 13th Dominican constructions in the Polish territories.
