Abstract

A hunt as the entertainment form of lords has fascinated people for a long time. For Polish kings, and since the turn of the 19th and 20th century also for Russian tsars, the main places of hunts were Białowieża Forest and forests near Spała. One of the “lordly hunt” took place in 1900 in Ostrowy domains, located northwest of Częstochowa (former starosty of Kłobuck). The host of this hunt was Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich of Russia. These domains became his property in 1899. Local forests were favourable to huts. A special preserve was founded in Zakrzew settlement. Partridges, pheasants, blackcocks, hares, roe deer and deer were hunted. The report from this hunt was published in “The Week” in Piotrków, a representative of Arbuz company made photograph album (untraced unfortunately). The hunt was accompanied by meetings with some higher officials of Piotrków Governorate. During this visit, Duke Michael, accompanied by Fr. Kazimierz Puacz, watched a church in Kłobuck.
