I dedicate this study to a short extract from the second book of Hugo of Saint Victor’s important, extensive, and as yet unavailable in Polish work “De sacramentis christianae fidei”, namely to the section entitled On the dedication of the church – in the Latin original: “De dedicatione Ecclesiae”. The fundamental purpose of this work is therefore: to provide a Polish translation of the indicated text. However, in order that the native reader may enjoy an in-depth reading of the submitted translation, I have provided it with, firstly, several dozen of commentaries of various kinds and, secondly, a handful of the most indispensable, concise introductory information.
