This community being spread all over the World has to confront many new circumstances. It has to face up to new challenges in the areas of culture, finance and politics in order to safeguard its identity. After more then 50 years of struggle to protect the most important elements constituting the national culture and a strife to keep the family traditions helping in all the attempts to free Poland from the yoke of a communist system, a new challenge rises posing a new question: what should be developed and which values should be strengthened as well as the question around what should the Polish communities abroad unite. This essay shows the importance and the role of the pastoral care among the Polish community in Sweden. An activity that has a goal of supporting and developing Polish culture, building unity between the Poles in diaspora, supporting the Polish families in the upbringing of children and youths and strengthening the ties with the country of origin. The author attempts to analyze how and by what methods the Polish Catholic Mission in Sweden has been accomplishing this task for 60 years. Drawing on previous experience and listening to the current needs of the faithful, Polish pastoral care in Sweden continues to explore and use new opportunities. One of the characteristics of this phenomenon is the need to unite in order to protect common values, identity, rights and the wish to share important issues with members of the same cultural, professional or religious society. The Polish emigrant group in Sweden has its own traditions and clear results in this field. Starting with the interwar period, through the post-war period and the time of ideological war with socialism, the initiatives both from the patriots and those who sympathized with the regime were very lively. Polish Catholics in Sweden holds a high place among the well organized societies. There is a large sensitivity and understanding of this phenomenon within the interest and care of the Catholic Church. The current external and internal tendencies creating circumstances leading to isolation of migrants and marginalizing their presence, should be, in accordance with the teaching of the Church, overcome so that everyone, especially the young immigrants, could come to terms with his new environment, new country and culture, so that he will be able to realize his life plans and devote his time to those who constitute his new social network within the Christian community. The Catholic Church in Sweden, among its many initiatives and suggestions, tries, with different effects, to create a suitable climate for young immigrants’ integration anticipating it being the right way of building a Catholic community in a society indoctrinated by environments hostile to culture, history and catholic tradition and of the Catholic Church. The above article is a presentation of the charitable works of Polish Catholic Mission in Sweden, who apart from its pastoral mission that is carried out among Polish emigrants, is also engaged in showing active love, Caritas, through collaboration with different organizations, foundations, orders, hospitals, schools and individual people. The analysis is concerned with the status of these two fundamental institutions of pastoral care in the administrative structure of the Catholic Church. It has to do with the process of reviving or creating from scratch female Catholic religious orders or female Protestant ecumenical communities resembling the former in their aims and principles. The phenomenon has a rich and interesting sociological and psychological background. A scholar researching migratory phenomena is fascinated by the fact that in a country characterized by a very high level of emancipation and feminist awareness as well as a very clear-cut model of liberated woman, there are more and more cases of women finding their fulfillment in a diametrically different way of life.
