Errors in Preaching the Word of God in the Perspective of the Catholic Church and Evangelical Communities

The article presents and analyzes the errors in preaching God’s word, focusing on two homiletic traditions: Catholic and Evangelical. The purpose of the paper is to organize knowledge about these errors and conduct a comparative analysis of the similarities and differences in approaches to preaching God’s word. The author employs literary analysis and comparative methods to answer the question of what errors are made most commonly in both traditions and whether they have common sources. The first part of the article will present errors in homily preaching, attempting to view these errors within the context of Catholic homiletics. The second part will discuss errors in expository preaching, which is primarily the domain of Evangelical communities. The third part of the article will attempt to analyze and compare the differences and similarities in the presented preaching errors. The work shows that Catholic homilies are strongly tied to Tradition and liturgy, while Evangelical sermons focus on the direct application of Scripture and personal experience of faith. A better understanding of these differences and a more intentional approach to preaching can help minimize errors and improve the quality of preaching in both traditions.

As a liturgical act, the homily aims to direct the faithful to experience the full saving power of the Word of God. This, in fact, reveals the mystagogical function of the homily that cannot be ignored. This article deals with the issue of the liturgical actualization of the kerygma of the Missionary Discourse. First, he presents the liturgy as a place to experience the saving power of the Word of God, present in the mysteries of Christ. Then he presents Holy Communion as a moment of accessing the saving grace of the mystery, in order to finally interpret and connect the kerygma of the Missionary Discourse with liturgical signs that are to help the participants of the celebration discover the presence of the mystery of Christ in the Missionary Discourse. The indicated issues may constitute the substantive basis for the further development of liturgical theology and the practical application of broadly understood liturgical signs in the context of homily proclamation.

Kościół Ewangelicko-Augsburski w RP, nawiązując do tradycji starożytnego Kościoła chrześcijańskiego oraz Reformacji, podkreśla znaczenie zwiastowania Słowa Bożego. Potwierdzenie tego znajdziemy w aktualnych dokumentach wypracowanych przez Synod Kościoła. Dokumenty Kościoła Ewangelicko-Augsburskiego w RP skupiły się przede wszystkim na: istocie zwiastowania, przygotowaniu kandydatów do zwiastowania, obowiązkach i zadaniach ewangelickich duchownych oraz treści zwiastowania. Wskazane tematy mogą stanowić merytoryczną podstawę dalszego rozwoju homiletyki ewangelickiej, ale również katolickiej homiletyki formalnej czy szczegółowej.
