    The paper handles with the problem of cultural identities in the age of globalisation. It moves on with the considerations of cultural identity in the Polish cultural studies (F. Znaniecki, S. Ossowska, A. Kłoskowska et al.) with their central concepts of borderland and cultural polyvalence. Such concepts counteract the emptying effects of globalisation and point to individual cultures as reservoirs of values and goals. They are based on dialogue and intercultural comunication and claiming for an intercultural approach to all problems of the contemporary world. Examples of the activities following this approach whose aim is to introduce the Polish humanities with their most important works into an European conversation) are analysed.
