    Purgatory is the place where two paradoxes persist: justice and mercy, and suffering and joy of souls. It is a place of hope too. In Purgatory, the temporary suffering is permeated with joy, because the soul is aware that after the experience of purgation in Purgatory it will be with God in heaven (visio beatifica). This truth has remained unchanged since the beginning of the Church. It is already mentioned in the Bible. This article presents the truth about Purgatory based on the Bible and the Church’s teaching before and after the Second Vatican Council.
