    The article brings up the issue of musical rhetoric in the first part of Audite mortales by Bartlomiej Pekiel. Pekiel’s musical rhetoric consists of musical rhetorical figures, numerical symbolism as well as key symbols. Dialogo Audite mortales is a proof that it is solely implication of musical rhetoric canons that constitutes a composition. The analysis and an attempt at interpretation of Bartłomiej Pękiel’s rhetorical figures, allow us to place the composer among the best European artists of the Baroque period. Beside musical rhetorical figures, Audite mortales also contains chorale extracts from the Dies Irae sequence and an antiphony for the fourth Sunday of Advent, Canite Tuba in Sion.
