The subject of the study is the theme of the missionary nature of the Church presented and shown in a new light in a deepened and adapted to the challenges of the end of the 20th century by Saint John Paul II in the encyclical Redemptoris missio. Today, a special opportunity to undertake this issue and to present it in the current historical and ecclesial context is the 30th anniversary of its announcement (December 7, 1990). The presentation of its contents and their analysis highlighted the uninterrupted continuity of Christ’s missionary command and the unchanging relevance of the message contained in the document regarding the proclamation of the Gospel and the baptism of all people. The necessity of recalling this topic appears inevitably, taking into account the internal condition of the Church, as a result of which the mandate entrusted to all Christians loses its power and seriousness. As a result, due to the weakening of missionary awareness and responsibility manifesting itself within the Church, it seems necessary and absolutely essential to remind and refer to the encyclical of John Paul II in order to awaken among Catholics the awareness of the mission of announcing the Gospel given to them.

This study synthetically undertakes the main message of the encyclical of Saint John Paul II on the 25th anniversary of its announcement, March 25, 1995. The purpose of displaying and reminding was not only the celebration of the anniversary, but above all the fact that today this document reveals its extraordinary timeliness, perhaps greater than when it was published. Here, the prophetic charisma of Saint Pope John Paul II is revealed. Noticing certain socio-cultural phenomena dominating the world and the ideas in which they had their roots, the Polish Pope decided that it is right and necessary to remind the world about the message that the Church foretells about the mystery of man. This mystery reveals its splendor in the light of God’s revelation, i.e. the Gospel which is the Person of Christ himself. In our time, the Gospel of life sounds extremely loud and requires steadfast, convincing and persistent preaching to the world today.

„Sumienie eklezjalne” w blasku prawdy, dobra i zbawienia
Parzych-Blakiewicz, Katarzyna; Kopiec, Maksym Adam (Katolicki Uniwersytet Lubelski Jana Pawła II & Towarzystwo Teologów Dogmatyków, 2018)
The article presents the issue of ecclesial conscience as a personal space in which a believer man evaluates his own ecclesiological activity. The formation of the faithful conscience in an ecclesial format is in line with theandric and at the same time missionary nature of the Church. The issue is shown based on three papal documents: Veritatis splendor, Caritas in veritate, Lumen fidei. These sources explain the relationship between absolute Truth, Goodness and Love as transcendentals conditioning the individual process of human salvation.

The Main Aspects of John Paul II’s Encyclical Fides et ratio in the Current Historical and Theological Environment
Kopiec, Maksym Adam (Papieski Wydział Teologiczny we Wrocławiu, 2020)
The article presents the fundamental aspects of the encyclical Fides et ratio of John Paul II concerning the historical and theological context of contemporary culture. It indicates current problems in the harmonious existence of societies that function according to paradigms contrary to the absolute truth of the theological subject. The errors resulting from modernism (subjective rationalism, the cognitive negation of faith) and postmodernism (relativization of truth, atheism and antitheism, the reductionism of faith) are discussed. Further, the existential value of religious faith is demonstrated through the correlation of meaning/sense and truth. In doing so, this article serves as an apologetic for the rational nature of faith. Truth is emphasized as a gift both contained in and received from God’s Revelation, a gift necessary for discovering the sense of human reality.

Sin and its consequences are present in life of every human being. However, the awareness of sin in contemporary world has decreased significantly, both in its individual and social dimensions. That is why this article intends to outline main ideas of the papal teaching about sin and salvific role of the Holy Spirit. Looking into the nature of sin, John Paul II describes it in the light of salvific work of Christ as well as work of the Holy Spirit in the heart of each man and woman. At the core of the sin of crucifixion of Jesus lies rejection of His mission whereas the sin against the Holy Spirit presupposes a radical refusal to be converted and therefore to accept forgiveness offered by God. In this difficult situation the Holy Spirit comes with an offer of the remission of sins. For this action to be successful it is necessary to recognize sin in one’s conscience. That is why the mission of the Holy Spirit consists in convincing of sin, righteousness and judgment. The Pope points out that Jesus Christ’s salvific work encompasses somehow every single human sin. The Holy Spirit reveals in man’s heart economy of God’s love which invites to conversion.
