The aim of the article is to show the challenges that the modern world poses to people in different areas of personal and social life, especially the challenges facing married and family life in Ukraine. In order to achieve the intended objective, the deductive method and its specific methods were used: the method of analysis of source texts, methods of interpretation and comparison, as well as methods of synthesis and inference. Based on the analysis of the contemporary teaching of the Catholic Church and theological studies, three main challenges facing the community of believers in Ukraine were presented: the impact of the ideology of totalitarian communism, the postmodernist mentality, taking into account such cultural trends as pluralism, relativism and consumerism, as well as the current widespread impact of globalization and its adverse effects on personal and marital and family life. The article presents selected sources of the contemporary crisis of the community and of the institution of marriage, as well as the family built on it, with particular attention to the challenges perceived in Ukraine. For each of the challenges, the article briefly presents the pastoral response of the Catholic Church. It emphasizes in particular those aspects of the Church’s mission which, in the present situation, make it possible to promote a culture of life and charity.
