Pozycja Baptismal Memrāʾ of Anonymous Author of the Ninth CenturyPittappillil, Francis (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2018)“Exposition of the Church Services” (ECS) is a 9th century liturgical commentary, the first and integral liturgical work about the East Syrian liturgy after the great liturgical reformation of Patriarch Išo’yahb III. Though the Author of the ECS comments on the various memrē of the Church of the East, we shall pay attention mainly to the baptismal memrā, which is the most remarkable among the memrē commented on by the Author. At first, we shall discuss the different terms and methods of baptism together with the manuscripts and editions of East Syrian baptismal liturgy. The baptismal memrā contains nine chapters and an analysis of the content of each chapter provides us with a clear outlook about the content of the text. The Author highlights the Pauline theology that explains baptism as a participation in the death and resurrection of Christ. The Author speaks about three anointings upon the candidate: pre-baptismal rušmā, anointing of the whole body and the post-baptismal rušmā. He emphasizes the pouring out of the consecrated water before the post-baptismal rušmā. He sets the baptismal rite within the framework of Eucharistic celebration, and the reception of the Eucharist by the baptized is presupposed in the commentary. A lucid idea is depicted in the commentary about the rights and duties of the sponsors too. In short, the baptismal commentary of the Anonymous Author of the 9th century provides us with a holistic view about the East Syrian rite of baptism.Pozycja Eucharistic Concept in the Apostolic Exhortation „Amoris Laetitia” (2016)Pittappillil, Francis (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2016)The post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia published on 8 April 2016, offers distinctive and specific theology of family based on the Eucharist. Throughout the document, Pope Francis highlights the significance of Eucharist in the family life. According to him, Eucharist has a unique role in the creation and formation of the Christian families. He calls Eucharist “a medicine for the imperfect” to heal the wounds of the family. Therefore, all the Christian families have to meditate on the great mystery of Eucharist to leam the basic lessons of Christian love and communion. Pope Francis exhorts the priests to apply the logic of mercy in the pastoral field. Amoris Laetitia strongly emphasises the need for the pastoral companionship by the priests to those who are weak and live in the situation of error. They have to be invited to come to the main stream of the Church, since Church is the house of all the faithful. In fact, every family may try to practise the Eucharistic love. In short, Amoris Laetita is a useful handbook for all the faithful to know the basic principles of family life and the value of Eucharistic centred Christian life.Pozycja The Qudasha of Mar Theodore – a Critical StudyPittappillil, Francis (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2021)This paper is a critical study of the popular in syro-oriental liturgical tradition anaphora attribuited to Mar Theodore of Mopsuestia. The author analyses the structure and content of this liturgical document as well as its theological meaning. The research reveals that this eucharistic prayer is correct from the theological point of view and constitutes a valuable heritage of the Christian euchological space.Pozycja The Vision of Eschatology in the East Syrian QurbanaPittappillil, Francis (Redakcja Wydawnictw Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, 2019)Eschatological hope is inherent in the East Syrian Qurbana through which the Church contemplates and foretastes the second coming of Christ in glory (parousia). The main thrust of this paper is to find out the eschatological allusions seen in the prayers, hymns and rubrics of the different sections of the East Syrian Qurbana. In the liturgy of the Word, we can see many prayers and hymns with clear eschatological reflections on heaven, death, resurrection, purgatory (Beth Purkana), parousia and final judgment. The anaphoral part of the Qurbana carries eschatological views especially in its G’hanthas, Sanctus and Epiclesis. The Liturgy of the Holy Communion presents the ultimate eschatological fulfillment of the faithful and the Church in terms of the Eucharistic Communion.
