The history of dictionaries and lingual lexicons goes far into the past. One of the most famous dictionaries is Ambrosius Calepinus’ dictionary written in 16th century. The Library of the Theological and Pastoral Institute and Seminary of Rzeszow among its collection has two specimens of this dictionary, of which one of them contains very interesting inscriptions, marginal notes and ownership marks. Thanks to research devoted to this kind of traces it is possible to investigate the past of the certain volumes and to see how the thoughts and ideas of individual owners and readers were formed.

The man has always had a deeply developed sense of collecting various items. Such a passion was the foundation not only for institutional collecting, but also has had an influence on the formation of private collections. Often, because of such collections many things can be conserved for posterity. Simple sacred devotional images are among others such objects which are underrated. The tradition of small devotional pictures has its source in the Middle Ages. Over the next centuries, changed both the form and content of the religious pictures. Many of them were real works of art. The lapse of time, wars, historical storms and natural disasters caused that very few old sacred devotional pictures were conserved. Therefore it is right to preserve this type of collections from further damages. Many exhibitions, publications and lectures are organized by collectors and enthusiasts to make closer the theme of religious sacred images. The religious sacred pictures, despite their modest importance, are very precious cultural heritage of catholic culture, so it is important to take care to preserve them for future generations.

Marks of ownership traced in the books are valuable, but ofen underestimated source of historical knowledge. In the books of the nineteenth-century collection in the Library of the Theological and Pastoral Institute and the Seminary of Rzeszów there are many of interesting marks of ownership in form of stamps and labels that say much about former owners. The examination of such marks allows to deepen our knowledge about them.
