People with intellectual handicap are one of the most marginalized groups in a society. They encounter great barriers in an access to each domain of social life. Achieving of a satisfying level of independence, in a situation when a human being is handicapped, requires specialist help. Therefore support in overcoming difficulties or solving every day specific problems is an essence of an issue of help. In the present article there were analyzed forms of the help towards intellectually handicapped people realized by the organization „Caritas” on the territory of podkarpackie viovideship. On the basis of conducted considerations it should be stated that a symptom of government policy in the scope of social support is at present transfer of many actions and initiatives on behalf of the families with a handicapped child on so called third sector that is non-governmental organizations. Specifity of organization in our country lies in a necessity of keeping constant readiness to adapt ourselves to the current economic conditions. Possession of this ability affords more effective and systematic actions. At the same time, basing of activities of the non-governmental organizations on a hierarchy of human needs makes it possible to undertake the effective initiatives as well as quick reaction to the changing needs of the environment.

The intention of the presented article is to clarify the situation in the field of social workers university education in Ukraine, taking into account all social and political changes. The first part of the article aims at introducing the origins of beginning and development of social workers university education in Ukraine. The second part, based on analysis of available governmental conceptual and strategic documents, we clarify the crucial influence of the state policy in the field of university education on the current state of social workers education.
Opieka nad osobą z chorobą Parkinsona w percepcji opiekuna rodzinnego

Z uwagi na proces starzenia się społeczeństw, częstość występowania zespołów otępiennych stale wzrasta. Choroba Parkinsona jest jedną z najczęstszych chorób neurozwyrodnieniowych i dotyczy przede wszystkim pacjentów po 50. roku życia. Głównymi objawami choroby Parkinsona są zaburzenia w postaci spowolnienia ruchowego, drżenia spoczynkowego i wzmożenia napięcia mięśni typu plastycznego. Opieka nad osobą z chorobą Parkinsona jest nie tylko wyczerpująca fizycznie i psychicznie, ale także kosztowna. W pracy podjęto próbę ukazania trudności, z którymi spotykają się rodzinni opiekunowie osób z chorobą Parkinsona. Sprawowanie opieki nad osobą z chorobą Parkinsona stwarza wysokie ryzyko obniżenia jakości życia przede wszystkim opiekunów rodzinnych silnie związanych emocjonalnie z chorym.

The objective of present article is a reflection over chosen social initiatives realised on behalf of handicapped people on territory of podkarpackie voivodeship. Handicapped people make up a very diversified social group. It is not homogenous group, that is why a wide range of problems associated with it exists. Diversity concerns causes, kinds and degrees of handicap as well as acquired education and experience. They can be people in different age, who have secured care of a family, people who take advantage of complete care of the social institutions (secular or ecclesiastical) as well as homeless people. Gaining of satisfactory level of self-dependence, when one is a handicapped person, requires to take advantage of specialist help in order to overcome a whole series of difficulties or problems associated with the fact itself or with specifity of a certain kind of handicap.
Opieka wychowawcza nad dziećmi upośledzonymi umysłowo do 1989 roku

The purpose of the present article is to present an issue of development of educational care over mentally handicapped children till the year 1989. For education since a very long time occupied one of the main positions among social tasks, but initially it referred only to the individuals who didn’t vary from standard. Educational care over mentally handicapped children goes back to not so distant times. Importance of educational and rehabilitation work with these people increased and unquestionable dynamism of mental handicap gives hopes of achievements in this field. The reason of this situation is a development of an idea of humanitarianism, social readiness to help people who are weaker and less proficient. Furthermore, a scientific progress is essential as well as social and economic considerations. Subjective treatment of a human being’s development, positive thinking concerning chances of development of an individual as well as focus on possibilities of realisation by each person is an appeal, law and a duty that is noticed in individual and social aspect.
Przekonania młodzieży licealnej i akademickiej na temat osób starszych – perspektywa familiologiczna

In accordance with current demographic trends, i.e. the lengthening oflifespan and the growth of the proportion of seniors in the overall population, the functioning of the elderly is increasingly becoming the subject of analytical studies. The purpose of the article is to illustrate the convictions of people at different stages of adulthood about the functioning of older people in the family, taking into account differences in perception between school and academic youth. A research problem is: What are the convictions of people at different stages of adulthood about the functioning of older people in the family and are there differences in perception between school and academic youth? We used a survey by A. Kanios, M. Czechowska-Bieluga, A. Weissbrot-Koziarska, R. Krawczyk, P. Zielińska. In 2018/2019 the research among 1084 junior high school and students from Polish voivodships (Opole Voivodeship, Silesian Voivodeship, Podlasie Voivodeship, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Lublin Voivodeship, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Masovian Voivodeship, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, and Podkarpackie Voivodeship) was conducted. The research allowed to show beliefs of high school and academic youth about the elderly from a familiological perspective.

This article was written on the basis of a larger, the author’s own study of 52 homeless women in the Podkarpackie voivodship, that was conducted in 2009. People were matched in terms of age, place of residence during the research, and occasional or permanent residence in a hostel. The biographical method, narrative interview technique, which is a particular form of free or in-depth interview, was used. The article attempts to show the image of one’s mother in the perception of homeless women.

Wolontariat formą wsparcia społecznego osoby niepełnosprawnej i jej rodziny

The article is a reflection on the subject of assumptions and activities of volunteers that are a form of support of a disabled person and his/her family. The authoress presents the specificity and importance of volunteers’ work. She undertakes an attempt of a search for some kind of alternative, innovative solutions (programmes) in the field of voluntary work for the benefit of the disabled and their families. She makes subject to analysis three specific types of voluntary work. First among them is the youth voluntary work, next – employees’ voluntary work and the following – prisoners’ voluntary work. The essence of these considerations is also an attempt of taking a look at effects of these kinds of activities from the point of view of both: taker and a giver of the social support.

During over a dozen and so years in Poland there were implemented changes which have not a trifling meaning for functioning of the state. A majority of people expected a support from the state, not being able to reconcile themselves with the fact of the state’s withdrawal from a full responsibility for its citizens and each family. Simultaneously, in spite of struggling with various problems, a family constitutes the most important and the most efficient source of mutual support. This does not mean that the support in such extent is sufficient. Families with a handicapped person are in a particularly difficult situation. Thus, an attempt of searching for an essence of the issue of social support of a handicapped person’s family was undertaken in the present reflection.
