For him, waiting for the revelation of this “genius” of a woman, which should make us more sensitive towards one another, is a sign of the times. The Holy Father took up the challenge in the most thorough manner in his apostolic letter “Mulieris Dignitatem”, devoted to the dignity and vocation of a woman. Unique in her motherhood, she resembles the Creator himself. This vocation allows a woman to realize herself as a disinterested gift. Created out of love, she wants to live for love. This positive ability, a feature of the female nature, is incarnated in motherhood. The woman in her maternity becomes immeasurably closer to her conceived child than the father who learns from her how to be a father. John Paul II draws a conclusion that the mother – herself a gift – teaches her child how to become a gift. Actually, it can be said that the truth about ourselves, other people and the world is revealed to us by our mothers. ith regard to this dimension of her vocation, the woman exceeds the man and manifests the truth of a human being created out of Trinitarian love. Thus for John Paul II motherhood is the crowning expression of this personalistic and common attitude. A child is first and foremost a gift from the loving God, but it is also conceived thanks to its parents’ love. Therefore a child is not only a task to be fulfilled with love but also a gift for its parents that helps them grow in their humanity. The Holy Father does not forget about the consequences of motherhood. One of those is suffering at delivery, which Jesus Christ compares to an hour of dying. This evangelical reflection leads to a comparison of a mother’s joy at the birth of her child to resurrection. Thus maternity “belongs” to the Paschal Mystery. John Paul II compiles a kind of catalogue of pains in a woman’s life and perceives them as participation in Christ’s sufferings reminiscent of Mary’s grief. Consequently, in the context of resurrection he stresses the enormous role of women as witnesses of a new life. The Pope looks at motherhood in a spiritual dimension and invites us to consider women in the aspect of alliance between God and people. Laypeople are called to holiness by meeting their commitments resulting from the ontic truth of being children of God, which is rooted in the mystery of baptism and maintained through care for spiritual life with the help of graces from the other sacraments. Wyszyńskiego w Bydgoszczy, 2018)The author of the Great Novena, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński (known as the Primate of the Millennium) set an important task for the Catholic Church in Poland: to liberate the Polish nation from the invasion of enemy forces and from social misery. The pastoral programme he designed helped recognise and understand the post-war situation of Poland and hence that of Polish Catholic people, who constituted a community of faith. Being aware of the truth on the human condition, he first focused on work towards deepening the knowledge of the faith and promoting moral principles. This experience led him to create a realistic pastoral programme, shape its organisation and communicate the need to engage all Church members in its implementation. Cardinal Wyszyński strove not only for the preservation of the faith but also for the deepening of religious life both in families and the entire nation. His care for the life of the unborn child and the family stood out as an essential element of his pastoral programme. He used to stress the irreplaceable role of parents in upbringing, including religious education. Cardinal Wyszyński’s programme was based on Marian piety and a positive view of the Church, which was typical of most Catholics. He also stressed the significance of popular devotion and the important role of lay people in the Church. No-one creates themselves but created in the image and likeness of the Triune God a person discovers the truth about themselves. For this reason, the most basic relation demonstrated by Karol Wojtyła / John Paul II has its reference to God. Having accepted the truth of the creation of man and woman, a person grows up in the enriching community of people and becomes a gift for others. “Ad extra” relations are complemented by those “ad intra”. Everyone is enriched by others but also has tasks on their own. The vocation for growing up is carried out through individual acts, which shape human life. John Paul II strove for human freedom, which should be rooted in the truth, in the process of making a decision. He perceived a person through the Revelation and objective data, but also reached into the human heart, which he considered to be God’s sanctuary in us. He invited people to pray for making conscientious choices that comply with God’s will in the spirit of freedom and responsibility.
