Item An Assertive Method as Help in Catechesis?Vodičar, Janez (The Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow, 2017)The problem of discipline, and motivation in the learning process, is ever more glaring in catechesis. The assertive approach attempts to, at least partially, solve this problem in modern education. This discussion will show that it is possible to use this approach if assertiveness is enriched by the fundamental anthropological discovery as developed by P. Ricoeur in his hermeneutics of selfhood. He does not see human personality as static, but as dynamic, which gives key roles to three forms of passivity: towards one’s own body, towards others, and towards one’s conscience. The concept of passivity will be woven into catechesis, which aligns better to the spirit of Christian theology. The example of Jesus’ catechesis on the road to Emmaus will be used to show the practical usefulness of assertiveness, and the triple passivity in Christian evangelization.Item From Listening to Hearing the MessageVodičar, Janez (The Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow, 2014)Evangelizing is searching for an appropriate language to hand on Revelation. Demonstrated is a possible use of linguistic theories and educationally-developmental understandings of Vigotsky, to reach an increasingly isolated human. A selfcentered human being (autologous) has a difficult time understanding others and is thus becoming more empty-like he has no purpose. Evangelizing, which brings Revelation, a language of Another, becomes necessary to free the modern human for dectological sphere. Even though authology has become a part of approaches of evangelization, pastoral care has to become more dectological. The possibility of becoming open to transcendental in immanence of a subject is shown through three types of passivity in the philosophy of P. Ricoeur. Thus we see compatibility of new methods of evangelizing with the old ones. The best solution for modern evangelizing is shown in the community of the Church, which contains all of the necessary language for accepting the revelation of God as well as our neighbor. This way our God and our neighbor will be heard in the world, which firmly stands by freedom and autonomy.Item The Lay Person and his Christian Vocation in the Teaching of Pope John Paul IIStala, Józef; Vodičar, Janez (The Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow, 2019)Pope John Paul II in his oral and written teaching emphasised that Jesus Christ is the Redeemer of every human being and the same time underlined the value and dignity of every person, as well as his/her calling. In the 21st century, it is still worth recollecting the depth of teaching of John Paul II, especially the truth about the human being and his/her vocation through the mystery of the Redeemer. Therefore, this article will present some points from the documents written by Pope John Paul II, which refer to the Christian vocation of a lay man.Item Religiosität als erwünschte Anregung in der HermeneutikVodičar, Janez (The Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow, 2011)Paul Ricoeur insists on some kind of philosophical agnosticism although in everyday practice he is consciously bound to Christianity. That said, his poetical approach in Biblical hermeneutics when he confronts his position with his no believing contemporaries, very clearly shows that religious dimension of man, especially in its openness to new meanings, makes the understanding more prolific. This opens the way for new attempts of repeated search for human need for religious dimension also at Luc Ferry and Gianni Vattimo. It is not necessary that there is a very certain form of religiosity; the important thing is openness for these questions. In this way we liberate the science, to seriously confront with religious dimension of man. This is especially important in a globalized world where religiosity on one hand can be a cause for the clash of civilizations and on the other it can be a possibility of a common search for a world ethos.Item Rezension Józef Stala, Familienkatechese in Polen um die Jahrhundertwende. Probleme und Herausforderungen (Tarnow: Biblos 2008), 204 Seiten, ISBN 978-83-733267-4-3Vodičar, Janez (The Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow, 2012)Item The Critique of Secularism by Talal Asad as a Chance to Look for New Ways of ProclamationVodičar, Janez (Katolicki Uniwersytet Lubelski Jana Pawła II, 2024)In democratic societies, it is taken for granted to withdraw religiosity from public life. In this paper, we point to Talal Asad’s critique of this taken-for-grantedness. Using his genealogical method, he attempts to find the origin of this relegation of religiosity to the private sphere. The concept of secularity, he argues, is primarily an expression of the power of those who insist on enlightened reason. At the same time, secularism becomes, in a sense, a new religion, the only one acceptable in a democratic society. While we point out the causes of the secularization process, we also point out the aspects that are problematic in such a conception of religion. The Church’s response must take into account the process of secularization, but it must not fall into the same logic that led to this process in the first place. We point out the danger that the separation between the sacred and the profane, the physical and the spiritual, is increasing even in the new religious movements. We therefore propose a form of proclamation that involves the whole person and addresses him or her in everyday life.Item The homily as a way to the synodal Church. The possibility of building a responsible laityVodičar, Janez (Uniwersytet Papieski Jana Pawła II w Krakowie, 2024)The first Church was formed during the Pentecostal speech of the apostles. The first forms of evangelization were narratives of personal experiences with Jesus. With the formation of structures in the Church, the role of authority in official proclamation in worship also developed. We will try to show how a communal sharing of God’s word is necessary for a communal participation in Christ’s sacrifice on the way to synodality. Pope Francis encourages everyone to bear witness to Christ. We would follow the words that pope Francis wrote in the “Evangelii Gaudium”: “We are not asked to be flawless, but to keep growing and wanting to grow as we advance along the path of the Gospel; our arms must never grow slack.” The fear of losing touch with the sources of Revelation and from the diversity of faith experiences must not stop us from seeking a word that would, as at the first Pentecost, inspire people to live the gospel. The primary responsibility for more believers to participate in the sacrifice of the Word in our liturgy lies with those who can speak today. We will point out guidelines on how to educate for greater participation and open the possibility for institutional change through the homily as we know it today. We will also point out some good practices that reflect the possibility of education for the testimony of all believers needed for a synodal Church.Item Der Umbruch in den modernen GesellschaftenStala, Józef; Vodičar, Janez (The Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow, 2018)This article examines the processes of transformation of European societies in XXI century, taking into consideration especially factors of post-modernity, globalisation and strong social changes. Post-modernity affects all societies, but particularly those new societies in transition. Authors take the broad concept of “post-modernity” as being important for all societies that have experienced transformation in their political, social, cultural, economic, educational and religious spheres following a political shift from socialist to democratic government. The processes of social transformation affect people living in them strongly, in particular in their identity and relationships.
