    Charyzmatyczny wymiar powołania teologa
Walczak, Marcin (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2016)
It is doubtless that theology first of all puts questions about God and man. However, for ages theologians have been also asking questions about the meaning of their own work. One may speak about a peculiar meta-theology that tries to show the role and significance of theology in the life of the Church. The most frequently given answers to the questions about the meaning and character of theology oscillate around the concept of rationality. In such a view theology is a normal human process of making revealed truths understandable for people of a given epoch. However, it seems that such a vision of theology is tantamount to extremely simplifying it and to making it superficial. The question about the significance of theology may only be answered in the light of faith. This light allows seeing theology as a God’s gift, a charisma that helps the Church read the signs of the times and prophetically interpret the Biblical Revelation for a given epoch and culture. A theologian participates in a special charisma, so he should be perceived first of all as one who performs a special service of the word in the Church, and only then as a scholar. Such a charismatic position of theology allows reminding with full strength that the first and fundamental theologian is the Holy Spirit.

Divinity of Christ in the Light of the Quest for the Historical Jesus
Walczak, Marcin (Katolicki Uniwersytet Lubelski Jana Pawła II, 2024)
The flourishing research on the historical Jesus, which has been growing for several centuries, cannot stay without influence on systematic theology. One of the fundamental problems remains whether and to what extent it is possible to reconcile the image of Jesus emerging from historical research with the Christian dogma of the incarnation. This article attempts to answer the question of how belief in the deity of Jesus can be reconciled with the historical approach to him and to his life. The deity of Christ will be presented as a theme not independent of, but closely related to, the historical picture of Jesus. The first part will examine three approaches to the question of the relationship between the historical reconstruction of the person of Jesus and the belief in his deity. The second part will show what kind of belief in the divinity of Jesus is incompatible with the historical-critical approach to the Gospel texts and the life of Jesus. Finally, the third part will attempt to show which understanding of the divinity of Christ is compatible with the historical-critical approach. Belief in the incarnation of God in Jesus seems always possible, even in times of critical historical consciousness. The results of historical research on the person of Jesus not only do not refute such a belief, but also help to find its proper meaning.

The Charismatic Dimension of the Vocation of a Theologian

The Mediation in the Human Cognition of God in the Thought of Paul Tillich
Walczak, Marcin (Katolicki Uniwersytet Lubelski Jana Pawła II, 2022)
Paul Tillich was one of those important theologians of the 20th century who devoted much attention to issues related to theological theory of knowledge. In Tillich’s thought, God is the mystery of being infinitely close to man, but human cognition of this mystery is always mediated. This article analyzes the question of mediation in human cognition of God in the thought of the great protestant theologian. First, the mediating, symbolic character of all religious language is presented. Then the mediating nature of theology is analyzed. The third part presents the importance of mediation in human cognition of ultimate reality. The conducted research leads to the conclusion that, according to Tillich, there is no other way of thinking and talking about God than mediated in the created world. God ultimately remains a mystery that is revealed to us through the reality that surrounds us.

Wcielenie jako Logos zapośredniczony. Refleksje na podstawie myśli Paula Tillicha
Walczak, Marcin (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)
Mediation remains one of the important topics of ecumenical dialogue to this day. The mediation of Christ always remains the starting point for reflection on theological mediation. The present article shows how it functioned in the thought of one of the great Protestant theologians of the 20th century, Paul Tillich. First, his concept of the Logos will be presented as a medium. Then Tillich’s concept of the Incarnation will be presented, which can be called the concept of the main mediated presence of God in the world, and then Tillich’s assessment of Christological dogma. The following analyzes will allow us to take a fresh look at such an important ecumenical issue as theological mediation. Authentic mediation is ultimately a gift of God and not a product of man.

Zbawcze pośrednictwo Chrystusa w myśli Paula Tillicha
Walczak, Marcin (Wydawnictwo Towarzystwa Naukowego Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego, 2022)
The question of the redemptive mediation of Christ is one of the key issues in dogmatic theology. One of the thinkers who presented the original concept of soteriology in modern times was Paul Tillich. This article presents his theory. In the first step, Tillich’s views on the question of historical Jesus will be presented. Then the concept of salvation as a victory over the conditions of existence will be analyzed. Finally, the issue of redemptive mediation in paschal events will be discussed. The conducted analyzes lead to the conclusion that it is impossible to separate Christology from soteriology, and it is also impossible to build theology without using the category of mediation.
