An article describes traditional celebration on 22nd of November as a solemnity of St. Cecilia, patroness of choristers, luthiers, organists, musical ensembles and sacred music. In 17th century – Restoration period in England – this cult took on a particularly elaborate and solemn form due to the Musical Society of London and collaboration of great composer Henry Purcell. He was twenty-four years old at the time, and already established as a composer at the court of Charles II. Welcome to all the pleasures ode for strings, voices and ground bass, with words by Christopher Fishburn, was commissioned by The Musical Society of London. After an expressive opening, an ode becomes a heartfelt celebration of the ‘universal harmony’ which blessed Cecilia bestows. This piece of music reveals variety of rhetorical figures and numerous of affects, which analysis attempt is undertaken in third part of current publication. It is an example of ode strongly sets in English musical tradition, heralding Henry Purcell’s evolution of the composers workshop, which is significantly visible in his vocal and instrumental achievements. An article discuses also a genre of an ode as a musical-literary form, which is derived from antiquity period and its process of adaptation on the base of English court music. Especially in light of Henry Purcell’s transformation of composing language context.
