It means that literature contains in its various artistic dimensions patterns of patriotic conduct and demeanour. It is a mirror reflecting changes in understanding this concept. It is also a space in which particular forms of national and personal patriotism are being born. These are local, political, constitutional, economic, martial and day-to-day one. In the second part of the article the output of Jerzy Stefan Stawiński, the Polish scriptwriter and filmmaker, is interpreted. Stawiński propagated martial dimension of patriotism, he strove to portray the Polish post war culture as liberating itself from the Soviet captivity.
