Liturgiczne wspomnienie św. Jacka

Abstract

Artykuł podejmuje temat liturgicznego obchodu św. Jacka, dominikanina (ur. koniec XII w. – zm. 15 sierpnia 1257 r.) przypadającego 17 sierpnia. W artykule przedstawione zostały wiadomości dotyczące życia Świętego i Jego działalności zakonnej (założenie klasztorów dominikańskich w Polsce) i misyjnej. Omówiono modlitwy, którymi posługujemy się w obecnym mszale. Teksty współczesne zestawiono z dawniejszymi (przedsoborowymi). Porównanie pokazuje, że modlitwy mszalne zostały odnowione i przeredagowane, aby usunąć z nich elementy niepotwierdzone historycznie, ukazać zaś cechy świętości Jacka, takie jak m.in. gorliwość, wytrwałość, ufność w Bożą opiekę i pomoc. W artykule omówione zostały perykopy czytań mszalnych, jak również teksty liturgii brewiarzowej, by ukazać w nich drogi świętości Jacka Odrowąża. Jednocześnie w artykule przeprowadzono analizę tych tekstów, by odróżnić to, co stanowi historycznie potwierdzone fakty, od legend o Świętym, i dzięki temu odkryć głębszy, symboliczny, obrazowy sens przekazów o św. Jacku.

The article addresses liturgical celebration of St. Hyacinth (St. Jacek Odrowąż), a Dominican (born at the end of the 12th century – died on August 15, 1257), which falls on August 17. Information is presented about the life of the Saint, his monastic activities (such as founding Dominican monasteries in Poland), and his missionary work. In further, the article discusses the prayers included in the current Roman Missal. When compared to older Mass prayers (pre-Vatican Council II), these present-day texts have clearly been renewed and redrafted to remove historically unverified elements while highlighting St. Hyacinth’s virtues, such as zeal, perseverance, trust in divine care and assistance. The article examines chosen fragments of the texts of the Mass readings for this day, as well as of the Liturgy of the Hours, to showcase the paths of St. Hyacinth’s sanctity. Analysis of these readings and prayers highlights distinction of historically confirmed facts and preserved elements of legends about the Saint, thereby uncovering the deeper symbolic and illustrative meanings of the accounts of St. Hyacinth.
