Abstract

Among the conditions of poverty, beside unemployment, marginalisation having many children and living in the country, disease and disability are particularly worthy of notice. They bring about a reduction in income, an instantaneous and frequently long-lasting growth of expenses, as well as various kinds of consequences and burdens for the sick and their families. An exemplification can be found in the studies, letters to the Seym (lower house of the Polish Parliament) and the statistical data quoted in the text. The hitherto existing forms and principles of bestowing benefits are not satisfactory. Therefore, there arises a necessity for complementary actions of institutional, local and extra-governmental aid subjects to reduce poverty in families of the sick and the disabled.
