Abstract

Cultural and religious clash, which took place in Israel in the second century before Chr. was inevitable, however, did not have to take such drastic forms. Often Israels lived in major centers of Greek culture (for example, the important diaspora of Alexandria), but public awareness of Israel has been shaped by the reform of Ezra and Nehemiah. Referring to the observation of the situation the people of Israel in the second century before Chr. you can say that it's easy to take extreme attitudes: enthusiastic assent to the absorbtion of Hellenic culture, even if it was connected with renouncing their own faith, or a total negation of Hellenism and the fight against its supporters.
