Abstrakt

The aim of this article is to present youth subcultures, which still have not been analyzed deep enough by social scientists. While new types of subcultures are forming around the world, ‘classic’ subcultures are still very interesting. This article presents norms and values of three youth subcultures in the changing modern world. They were called symbolic subcultures (T. Paleczny, 1997). This article is based on 21 in-depth interviews done in 2009 with members of three subcultures ‒ Skinheads, Punks and Metalheads. Skinheads and Punks were chosen to this analysis because they seems to be opponents in their values. Metalheads in literature are described as those without any specific value. However this research did not confirm this fact. This article shows what are the most important things in subcultures’ members’ lifes and what kind of rules dominate their social world.
