Abstrakt
The issue of leisure time and rest is rarely dealt with in Polish theological writing. The author focuses on the exploration which would enable him to talk about rest on the basis of theology. Biblical sources – both the Old and the New Testament are full of interesting passages which allow searching for a deep meaning of repose. From Christian perspective rest is not only man’s due regeneration of physical strength needed for work, but also following the example of God Himself. Human rest bears a reflection and an announcement of redemptory and eschatological realities. Its climax is found in worship celebration. Achieving full rest requires man’s deep moral transformation. Leisure time then cannot be separated from the relevant aims of man’s existence. Like other aspects of life it is a period of realization of Christian vocation. In his rest man approaches God and proceeds on his way to holiness. It is therefore both a theological and a pastoral task to take up the issue of rest in Christian life.
