The purpose of this article was to compare the teaching of two theologians: Romano Guardini (1885-1968) and Hans Urs von Balthasar (1905-1988). Both were treated as scientists who were spiritually related to each other. Despite the fact that the existing age difference was only twenty years between them and even the dates of their death fall within the same time space. It always pays to put big figures side by side to realize their closeness and distance, to notice what is “related-different”, as the Guardini himself defined this relationship and reference. The spiritual space in which the meeting of literature and theology takes place is the world of culture. Theology became more sensitive to the phenomenon of culture after the Second Vatican Council. This new position of the Church in dialogue with the world of culture had undoubtedly its precursors. Thanks to their integration of theology and literature, both Romano Guardini and Hans Urs von Balthasar made an important personal contribution here.
