De haeresibus liber

Abstract

De haeresibus liber is an interesting catalogue of the heresies, which comes from the Visigot Spain of the 7-th century. This work of Isidorus of Sevilla is not original, but was inspired by De haeresibus of saint Augustin and Indiculus of Ps. Hieronymus. These two writers refer to the Greek catalogues of the heresies. We can also notice, typical for Isidorus, inclination to discover the etymology. The author made the translation and gave the commentary of De haeresibus liber (the new edition of E.A.C. Vega, PLSuppl 4, 1815 1820) with the parallel fragments of Etymologiarum sive Originum libri X X (ed. W.M. Linsday, 1-2, Oxford 1966).
